About Larry Sietsma
In my former lives, I was a US Marine fighter pilot, an Air Line pilot and a builder of affordable homes but am presently retired. In the last 3 years, I have bicycled over 22,000 miles, including 3 cross-country rides; the Northern Tier, Pacific coast and Southern Tier with Bike the US for MS. It was an amazing experience to complete such rides to benefit those with MS. Our teams of riders generated hundreds of thousands of dollars for the MS effort which made it worth every pedal stroke. It was extremely rewarding to meet many with MS along the way and to help some of them with household chores they were no longer able to accomplish.
Next year, I plan to do an East Coast ride with Bike the US for MS to complete the circle but this summer will be an easy self-contained ride without support--500 miles across Iowa in 7 days in the world famous RAGBRAI along with 11,000 other riders.
My sister and several friends suffer from MS. In past years, most of my riding has been for pleasure but it is many times better to do it for such a great cause. I will be riding for Marion, Dolly, Doc, Pam, Evie, Dawn, Susan and Carrie.
I will cover my own expenses but, if you would like to make a tax-deductible donation for MS research, it would be greatly appreciated. Simply click on the box next to my photo on this page or mail a check (with my name on memo line) to: Bike the US for MS, Box 10001, Blacksburg, VA 24062. You are assured that your donation will be well spent toward MS research and in directly assisting those with MS.
The MS organization will send you a receipt and, more importantly, not bug you for contributions in the future. Thank you for your help to find a cure for MS.
