About Edward Hayes
Hello Once Again!
Thank you all for taking the time to look at my bio. After completing my first cross the US bike ride as a member of the 2016 Bike the US for MS Southern Tier Team, I am returning this coming spring and looking forward to riding as a member of the 2018 Atlantic Coast Team. Already some of my 2016 Southern Tier team mates have signed on to this tour in support of Bike the US for MS and I’m looking forward to sharing another amazing experience with them and the rest of the team.
I’m a retired engineer and enjoying opportunities to do these extended cycling tours. The 2016 Southern Tier tour was my first multi week tour and a most challenging and rewarding endeavor. I learned new things about myself, about what I could do and more about the struggles of others who live with MS for whom we ride in support and in service to.
To summarize from my 2016 bio, bicycle touring is something I’ve wanted to do from a young age although time, priorities and resources did not permit it until some 35 years hence. From riding a couple of times, a week starting about 2009, I gradually progressed to two day/multi day and eventually week long rides over the span of a year. Typically, I find the time to ride several week duration tours per year in addition to regular training rides.
My culminating experience to date was the aforementioned 2016 cross the US Bike MS Southern Tier tour where I had the great fortune to interact with some incredibly dedicated and caring people. As I look forward to the coming Bike the US for MS Atlantic Coast tour this coming spring, a special note of thanks is due to my wife Elaine, my family and my good friends for their past and ongoing support and encouragement.
