About Alan Brender
As long as I can remember, I have always wanted to bicycle ride across the whole United States. When I was growing up in New York City, I used to bike around the complete city as well as out to Long Island. Both times, while I was in South Korea, I did not have a car and chose to do all my commutting by bicycle. In 2011, I did a tour of South Korea, covering 950 miles in 11 days. That was the most I have ever biked but because of my prior training, it really was not as difficult as I origionally imagioned. In fact, the first day of the trip, I biked from Gunsan to Osan, covering 150 miles, and my legs were good to go the next day. That gave me a lot of confidence that completing the trip was not going to be as challenging as I thought. Of course, I don't give up easy, so I was committed to completing the trip. Prior to that trip, I have done a number of bicyle fund raisers for the American Cancer Society. None of them were greater then 100 miles. I am really looking foward to this cross country trip, starting in June of 2018, that will raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis.
