About Elizabeth Kantak
Hey there! My name is Liz and I'm embarking on a cross country bike trip this summer to raise money for multiple sclerosis research. I graduated from West Virginia University in 2016 with a degree in Graphic Design. While living in the mountain state, I developed a love of biking and the freedom I felt whenever I was in the saddle. I knew that, one day, I wanted to push my limits and plan a great adventure by bike. When I learned about Bike the US for MS, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to pursue this dream.
For some context, multiple sclerosis is a disease that affects the central nervous system. With MS, the immune system attacks the protective sheath that covers nerve fibers and causes communication between the brain and the rest of the body. Over time, MS can cause the nerves themselves to deteriorate and become permanently damaged. This nerve damage can lead to vision problems, limited mobility, problems with the digestive system, and other pains throughout the body. Attached is a helpful video I found that concisely explains MS overall in more depth if you are interested! ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Naecv3h868c )
My goal is to ride my bike from the Virginia coast to the California coast, with a personal goal of pledging one dollar per mile. As you can guess, thats a lot of miles! 3,785 to be exact. But, I won't be doing this alone! My team and I have a collective goal of raising $150,000 to build awareness for MS and contribute efforts to research and outreach across the country. If you are able, please consider donating to this excellent cause as we embark on this great adventure to contribute to research and awareness!
