About Rosanne Jones
Hi Everyone! My name is Rosanne Jones, and I am 23 years old. I am from Fayetteville, North Carolina and graduated from Duke University in 2009.
During the spring semester of my senior year, I took a triathlon-training course, and then competed in my first triathlon in June. The most difficult aspect of the race was the start of the swim. I had made a poor decision to position myself at the front and center of the pack of one hundred ladies (all wearing blinding, hot pink swim caps). And to make matters worse, I am not the strongest of swimmers; alas, I was not blessed with broad shoulders and upper-body strength. So, when the air horn sounded, there must have been five pink-capped ladies clobbering over me. I was fighting to stay afloat. But, I never gave up, and kept swimming. I have a passion for challenges - even the more ridiculous ones, like food eating contests that require physical exertion after inhaling grease-packed chili dogs and hush puppies (picture above).
I knew I wanted a big adventure this summer before going back to school, so when I checked out the website for Bike the US for MS, I immediately knew this journey was perfect for me. Whoa! Bike the US for MS combines my two loves - physical challenges & service. I come from a mission-oriented family; my dad has led medical/construction service trips to Bolivia, South America for around 20 years through the non-profit organization Curamericas Global. I have participated in many of these trips, and am currently volunteering for this non-profit at their headquarters in Raleigh, NC.
During high school, I went on a camping trip in which we drove in vans from North Carolina to California and then back home. My most vivid memory of this experience was sitting in a meadow at dusk while inhaling the crisp Wyoming air and staring in awe at the Grand Tetons. I forever captured the landscape - and that infinitesimal pause in time - in my mind and spirit. I cannot wait to cross the US once again, but this time, the mode of transportation will be even better - and this meaningful cause will inspire me to keep on pedaling.
