About Karan Sakhuja
Hi, I am Karan. A bit about me, I was born in India, travelled to most of the world, growing up. I moved to USA for college, and decided to stay here. I went to Clemson for my undergrad and Stanford for my masters in computer sciences. I am passionate about traveling, adventure and technology.
My passion towards Multiple Sclerosis dates back to my time in college during volunteer work. While volunteering at a children’s summer camp in South Carolina, I had the opportunity to meet a ten year old boy name Brian. Brian had MS, and it was my first experience meeting someone with MS. So, I am very keen on this issue. In the US today, there are approximately 400,000 people with MS, with 200 more people diagnosed every week.
I have been quite selfish; self-gratification has influenced most life decisions. I am at a point in my life, where I have the time and capacity to give back to the community, so here I am. I am doing this for those suffering with MS, who can’t ride. This ride is challenging; anything that is challenging intrigues me. This won’t be easy, various terrain including forest, desert, mountain passes, snowy peaks and winding rivers, but the agony to bike through it doesn’t even compare to the sufferings of the MS patients.
I want to bike across the country to raise awareness for Multiple Sclerosis, take part in service projects to benefit those affected with MS. I believe MS is an extremely worthy cause, and I hope to be a part of it.
I am required to raise $1 per 1 mile, so thats $3,785. I will be biking from Yorktown, VA to San Francisco, CA. Thanks Bike Across the US for MS for giving me this opportunity. I look forward to this incredible adventure!
