My name is Larry Sietsma. I was a US Marine fighter pilot, an Air Line pilot and an affordable homebuilder in my former lives but am presently retired. Last year, I bicycled 7,400 miles which was 100 miles for each year of my life (so far). That included rides across Florida in both directions, a ride across Georgia and one across North Carolina, among others.
I have wanted to do a Sea to Shining Sea ride for some time but when I heard about the MS ride, it immediately captured my attention. My sister and several friends suffer from MS. In the past, most of my riding has been for pleasure but it will be many times better to do it for such a great cause. I will be riding for Marion, Dolly, Doc, Pam and Evie.
There is no known cure for MS and to aid research in that area is my reason for doing this ride. In the past, I have always stayed in hotels but this ride requires camping on most nights. Such inconveniences will only make it more special. After all, those with MS endure daily hardships on a much greater scale.
I will cover my own expenses but, if you would like to make a donation for MS research, it would be greatly appreciated. You can make a tax deductible donation right next to my photo on this page or mail a check (with Larry Sietsma on memo line) to: Bike the US for MS; Box 10001; Blacksburg, VA 24062
The MS organization will send you a receipt. Thank you for your help to find a cure for MS.
