About Matthew Crooks
Thank you for visiting my page! My name is Matt. I am 30 years old and grew up in the suburbs of Pittsburgh, PA. I graduated with a Finance degree from West Virginia University in 2006, and since that time have been working as a commercial insurance broker for a large international brokerage firm.
Activities I like to participate in include cycling (I know… shocking), snowboarding, basketball, volleyball, hiking, and reading among many other things.
MS is an awful, unpredictable disease that affects both the mind and body. It damages the central nervous system and therefore can cause severe issues with mobility, memory/cognitive functioning, vision, and so much else, and can seriously impact the quality of life for people who have it. This disease has affected me personally, as my mom has suffered from the debilitating effects of MS for nearly 15 years.
There is so much that is still unknown about what causes or worsens MS, and treatment options are somewhat limited as a result. There’s amazing progress being made all the time through research and awareness efforts! If you’d like to learn more, please consider checking out the National MS Society’s website:
While the challenge of cycling over 3,700 miles will certainly be daunting, it doesn’t compare to the daily struggles of those suffering from MS…. where the seemingly simple task of getting out of bed can be exhausting. Through this experience, I not only hope to raise money to help find a cure and help those living with the disease, but also raise awareness about the effects of MS and helping those affected by it.
WHERE YOU COME IN
As I said before, I must raise at least a total of $3,785 for my bike ride across the United States, but I would like to raise much more if possible. I am certain that with the help of many individuals, all of the cyclists on this trip can reach this goal. You can donate online on my webpage here on Bike the US for MS, or by mail.
If you choose to donate by mail you can write the check payable to “Bike the US for MS” with my name “Matthew Crooks” in the memo line. This should then be sent to the following address:
Bike the US for MS
PO Box 10001
Blacksburg, VA 24061
I couldn’t be more excited to share this journey with family, friends, riders, and individuals living with Multiple Sclerosis. If you have any questions, or would like to discuss the trip, please do not hesitate to reach out!
