About Kathryn Collura
My name is Kathryn Collura. I'm 20 years old and currently a sophomore at the University of Maryland in College Park studying Government and Politics and pursuing a double major in Psychology. I grew up in Tampa, Florida. I loved biking as a kid. Every summer before anyone in the neighborhood had a car, we all used to bike down to the local pool almost every day. I was in love with my mom's old beach cruiser. Finally this summer, I decided it was time for me to get my own bike. So I went to the local Goodwill and found myself a cheap road Schwinn. I started riding to work, running errands for my mom, anywhere I could possibly go. I began to hate my car because I found that I felt so free on a bike. I can connect my surroundings so much better with no seat belt to hold me back.
Through many personal experiences, I have discovered the greatest thing we can share with others is love. Wherever I am in the future, whatever I am doing I want to spread love. When we help people, we spread happiness and love with our actions to others. Happier people lead to a greater acceptance and communication among people all kinds of diverse backgrounds. When we are open to others opinions and ideas, our knowledge about the world and life expands and we are able to view things from unique perspectives. Another personal goal of mine is to live in the moment as much as possible and experience all the earth has to offer. Nature is beautiful and there for us to explore and experience it.
This trip and this cause are both ways to give help and experience the entire country. The trip is such an amazing opportunity to educate others about the MS and to work to change the lives of people suffering from it. My family and I have taken a road trip every summer previous to this and I am so excited to travel the country beyond a window and road restrictions. I am also very excited to share this trip with motivated and caring individuals and to meet people from all different areas of the country. The end of this ride will not only be a major achievement for myself but also an achievement for the cause for MS. I cannot wait to be a part of this amazing journey.
