About Octavia Mulhern
My name is Octavia. I am an 19 year old cycling enthusiast and student at New York University.
Born and raised in big cities, I have been getting around on bikes for as long as I can remember. A couple of months ago, I decided to take my biking to the next level by joining my school’s cycling team. I always knew that one day I would want to do a long cycling trip, but I had never set my mind on cycling across the US. This desire came from my godfather, who has been cycling around the world for years and whose adventures I always envy, but also by the fact that I want to see parts of the world in a way that very few people are able to. When I found Bike the US for MS, I immediately knew that this was what I wanted to do. Not only is it the ideal ride, but it also serves a great cause that I would revel in being a part of.
MS is a neurological auto immune disease that permanently damages people's nervous system, rendering them unable to communicate correctly or to perform day to day tasks. It is life debilitating and is still a mystery to modern medicine. Unlike many other diseases, MS is not very well known to the public, which makes it difficult for researchers to obtain the means to advance their search for a cure. Over 2.5 million people suffer from MS, and finding a cure for it might also unlock some of the mysteries of our brains and nervous systems. More attention has to be paid to Multiple Sclerosis, and this why I have chosen to cycle for this cause.
So don’t hesitate to make a donation! It would be greatly appreciated!
