About James Whateley
I'm at it again it seems! There has been nothing bigger in my life over the past few years than the Bike the US for MS team. Having ridden the TransAm in 2012 and route led in 2013, it then developed to running the inaugrual Bike the UK for MS last summer. Now it's time to get back on the bike for myself.
This summer I will be taking on the biggest challenge of my life! For 47 days I will be arse on saddle, cycling the length of the Rockies from Banff, Canada, to the Mexican border. This off road adventure will involve over 200,000 feet of climbing and 2800 miles of rough, remote riding. That is the equivalent of climbing Everest over 6 and a half times and riding from London to Edinburgh 7 times!
Multiple Sclerosis, for those that may not know, is a disease which attacks your central nervous system. By eating away at the protective covering of your nerves, it disrupts the flow of information from your brain to your body. The effects of this can vary for every case, but it can often lead to loss of normal bodily functions, such as sight, touch and can lead to disablement. My personal connection goes back to my grandfather who died with the disease, but even greater than that has been my recent interactions with the members of the MS Society in Bristol. Hearing their stories and seeing their joy at the help they have been given by our fundraising has given me the added kick to continue this work help aid for those with the disease.
I have pledged to raise $1 per mile, or a little over £1800, which is no easy task in itself! If you happen to have a spare minute and are able help with my fundraising please click up to right. It’s quick and easy plus please note to change the currency to GBP£. Many thanks in advance!
