About Ryan Haac
I currently live in Thetford, VT with my beautiful wife named Mary Etna. We have three fur-babies and live in a cabin on the top of a mountain. I work as an Acoustic Analyst and Consultant at RSG, Inc in White River Junction, VT. I thoroughly enjoy my job and the people I work with on a day to day basis. My hobbies include riding and maintaining bicycles, playing disc golf and ultimate frisbee (semi-retired), eating responsiblly produced food, playing music, developing myself as a bioregionalist, and keeping warm next to the wood stove with a book and a beer.
About My Bike: I will be riding my Surly CrossCheck that I built from the ground up almost 7 years ago. Many modifications and much maintenance has been performed since then and I almost have the bike as I had dreamed it to be in graduate school. This is the bike that really got me into the zen and art of bicycle maintenance and the joy of riding for pleasure.
Bicycle Philosophy: I am not going to win any races because I just will not enter them. I see the bicycle as a means of transportation, a way to take responsibility for one's mobility. Riding a bike is rewarding oneself with the sights, smells, sounds, and insects in the face of the road. It is the best way to travel and allows one to be a part of the landscape through which they travel (only second to walking).
With BIke the US for MS, I get to have the bike where I want it: rolling under my power and carrying me down the road! I will be riding with the group from Bar Harbor, ME to East Thetford, VT - and then probably finishing the ride down Rt 113 to my home on Thetford Hill - a total of about 325 miles.
Please join me in supporting this cause. This organization was started by a dear friend from my days in Blacksburg, who, by a bit of serendipity, grew up across the street from the house where we lived out so many of our college dreams (playing music, sleeping in the garage, building bikes, etc). His intentions are genuine and this organization is a testament to his dedication to the cause. Thank you.
