About Mike Platania
I know what you're thinking.
"Who is this guy who signed up to be a Route Leader, like, less than a month from the beginning of the trip? What's his deal?"
Well, I can't give an an adequate answer because I don't really know. But I have learned that when the folks who run Bike the US for MS suggest you do something, that something is probably set to be a fantastic time.
Like my favorite awful band Toto sang in their 1982 hit Africa, I thought to myself:
"I know I must do what is right.
As sure as Kilimanjaro rises like Olympus above the Serengeti."
While the team bonding and riding are the glitz and glam of the trip, it's the service projects which make Bike the US for MS special. Interacting with and helping those who battle MS every day will leave you and the patients effervescent. You'll see the exact technology your fundraising dollars are going toward, and how it helps MS patients. Bike the US for MS makes no bones about it: we love helping MS patients.
I rode the Northern Tier in 2014, and like an alien abduction, I remember little but am convinced it happened. Some days I wanted to peel over and cry. Some days I didn't want to ever end. But the common denominator was that each night, when I fell asleep in my comically small tent, I was elated to be a part of Bike the US for MS. I can't wait to do it all again with ya'll!
