About John Suter

I retired in 2012 after 12 years with the New York State Archives, where Ifocused on statewide efforts to build a balanced documentary record of New York’s history. I directed the New York Folklore Society and the Center for World Music in San Diego, helped lead the Center for Traditional Music and Dance in New York City, and coordinated a large multicultural arts festival for Cornell University.

I served in the Peace Corps (Somalia, 1966-68), was active in the Civil Rights Movement, including Mississippi Freedom Summer, 1964 and am now active in the Ithaca chapter of Showing Up for Racial Justice (SURJ).

I began biking more or less seriously in 2012, am doing the 100-mile AIDS Ride for Life around Cayuga Lake in 2016 for the third time, and in 2015 rode the 340-mile GAP/C&O Canal Towpath from Pittsburgh to DC with a friend.

Luke Fadem is the son of  my wife's dear childhood friend, and I'm delighted to be able to join him on this great ride for one day -- wish it were more -- and support this imporant cause!
