Bar Harbor, ME to Seattle, WA
The first section of the Northern Tier stretches from the Atlantic to the Mississippi River. In between you ride along two of the Great Lakes, Niagara Falls, and pass through cities that were once the backbone of American industrialism. Iowa, Wisconsin, and Minnesota stand out as the greenest states along the route. You will learn about the history of the Mississippi River as you follow it north towards its headwaters. The last section from Minnesota to Seattle includes the Great Plains, the Badlands, large expanses of mountains and farmland in between. Even in the height of summer, cyclists will experience cold nights and occasional snow in higher elevations.
What are the dates for the Northern Tier?
The Northern Tier begins in Bar Harbor, Maine on May 28th and reaches Seattle 69 days later on August 4th.
