The GAP and C&O Trail

About the GAP and C&O Trail

A historical trail ride from Pittsburgh, PA to Washington DC

This weeklong ride along the GAP and C&O Trail offers scenic and historical traffic free riding. Following the Great Allegheny Passage and Chesapeake & Ohio Canal trails makes for a relaxing and easy to navigate ride.

Starting in Pittsburgh the ride will have you biking on the beautiful GAP trail under the shade of colorful tree canopies and through many charming trailside towns up and over the Eastern Continental Divide at a steady rail-to-trail grade.

Once over the divide you will begin the packed gravel C&O Canal Towpath, due to the gravel nature of the C&O trail we do recommend using a minimum of 28’s for tires on this ride.

Biking this trail takes you through scenic landscapes of rolling hills, forests, and along the Potomac river all the way to the nation’s capital. This multi-day trip offers a unique opportunity to explore the rural countryside and the rich history of the eastern United States.
